Argonne Child Development Center
A great place to learn, discover and grow!
The Argonne Child Development Center (ACDC) and Bright Horizons® provides child care and early education for employees of Argonne, the U.S. Department of Energy, University of Chicago, and their contractors.
Eligibility and Location
The ACDC serves infants, toddlers, preschool, pre-kindergarten, and school-age children. A developmentally appropriate educational environment is provided that empowers children to be confident, successful, lifelong learners.
The ACDC is located in the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve east of the laboratory. Children ages six weeks through six years are cared for in a year-round program. The center also has a schools out and summer camp program for children 6-12 years old.
The center was opened in 1992 and has been accredited since 1994. The ACDC is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals. This is the sixth accreditation the center has received from the NAEYC. Only eight percent of all preschools and early childhood programs/organizations in the United States receive accreditation by the NAEYC.
We are proud to have earned the mark of quality from NAEYC, and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards. Gayle Burgher, Argonne Child Development Center Director
To earn NAEYC Accreditation, the center went through an extensive and rigorious self-study process, measuring the program and its services against the ten NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more than 400 related Accreditation Criteria. The program received NAEYC Accreditation after an onsite visit by NAEYC assessors to ensure that the program meets each of the ten program standards. NAEYC-accredited programs are also subject to unannounced visits during their accreditation, which lasts for five years.
Bright Horizons offers center-based backup care when you need to be at work and your regular childcare is unavailable, for example:
- Your regular caregiver or spouse is unavailable
- You are transitioning between childcare arrangements
- Your child’s regular center or school is closed
- To ease transition back to work following a leave
- During business travel or relocation
Registration and reservations are required. Requests for care can be placed one month in advance and up until the day care is needed. Register today for peace of mind tomorrow.
