Crabtree testifies before House
Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR) Director George Crabtree recently presented testimony before the U.S. House Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee on Energy Hearing – U.S. Department of Energy Oversight on Energy Innovation Hubs.
Crabtree represented JCESR and spoke on the strides the center is making in moving beyond lithium-ion battery technology.
JCESR is looking exclusively beyond lithium-ion. We’re looking for a transformative change, not an incremental change.
George Crabtree, JCESR Director
Crabtree discussed JCESR’s mission goals which are to provide two battery prototypes, one for transportation and one for the grid. The prototypes, when scaled to manufacturing, will be capable of providing five times the energy density at one-fifth the cost of commercial batteries in January 2012 when the JCESR proposal was prepared.
The subcommittee expressed interest in the research of JCESR, the positive outcomes and partnerships that have been formed.
