94th Street closed
Work on the new Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP) is progressing and the next phases of work will include erecting the new plant’s above-ground structure; a new electrical ductbank run westward on 94th Street to Substation 551; and the installation of a new high pressure gas line from the current steam plant out to Cass Avenue.
These work activities, as well as the delivery of building equipment, will require heavy construction traffic. To assure safety for all personnel, only authorized traffic will be allowed on 94th Street between Outer Circle Drive and Eastwood Drive (view map).
No recreational traffic-jogging, walking, bicycling will be allowed along this part of 94th Street until summer of 2016.
About the Combined Heat and Power Plant
Argonne’s Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant, expected to be operational in June 2016, will provide electricity and steam heat for the laboratory’s campus and will replace aging equipment, a modernization of critical infrastructure. The 6.3 megawatt plant will provide $3 million in energy savings in its first year and more than $52.3 million within the first 15 years.
