Bob Furst receives June 2016 Gold Spot Award
On June 15, 2016, Robert Furst (AES), received a Gold Spot Award for mitigating a potential hazard and taking a leadership role in Argonne’s positive safety culture.
While walking in the mechanical mezzanine that supports the Advanced Photon Source (APS) accelerator, Furst noticed a significant water leak coming from a bolted flange. Knowing that this issue could increase or cause other tangential damage, Furst reported the issue immediately and he tightened the flange bolts after speaking with an engineer.
Furst’s quick actions stopped the leak and prevented potentially more significant issues from occurring at the APS.
If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting a Spot Award (ANL-758).
The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval. Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions. The cost of the award is charged to the recipient’s division.
Additional information about the Spot Award program is available on Inside Argonne.
