Argonne Soccer Club takes on Fermilab club
Fermilab hosted the Argonne Soccer Club for a friendly game on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016. The combination of unseasonably warm weather, Fermilab’s well-manicured soccer field and an Argonne win made it a perfect day.
Fermilab’s club played very fast and physical from the get-go. They scored in the first six minutes, and it appeared that the game was headed for a blowout. When the referee awarded a penalty after a hand ball in the Fermi box, Flip Kondev (NE) scored the penalty kick.
At halftime, the score was even at 1-1.
In the second half, on a corner kick by Argonne that was saved on the goal line by a Fermi defender, Darius Seweryniak (PHY) scored a header to make the score 2-1 for Argonne. The third goal for Argonne came about five minutes later from a perfect parabola from outside the big box by Khanh Cung (ES). Ten minutes before the final whistle, Fermilab scored a header to close the gap. The final score was Argonne 3, Fermilab 2.
Afterwards, the hosts provided beverages and a barbeque and everyone enjoyed the perfect weather.
