Mary Salisbury (HSE) receives January 2017 Gold Spot Award
On January 12, 2017, Mary Salisbury (HSE) received a Gold Spot Award for identifying and taking the initiative to help mitigate a traffic safety issue.
Salisbury noticed that the shoemobile truck, which is available in the Building 200 parking lot every Monday from 8 a.m. to noon, was causing a potentially dangerous blind spot for drivers entering and exiting the parking lot. Salisbury promptly took action to have the issue resolved. With the help of safety personnel, the building manager and shoemobile staff, the truck’s parking spot location was adjusted to successfully eliminate the blind spot.
Thanks to Mary’s keen eye for traffic hazards and quick actions, pedestrian safety has improved just in time for warmer weather.
Spot Awards give employees “on-the-spot” recognition for positive safety or quality assurance initiative. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting Spot Award (ANL-758).
The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval. Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions. The cost of the award is charged to the recipient’s division.
