New Southgate entrance opens today
A new south entrance (see map) to the Argonne Lab campus opens Saturday, April 1, 2017, for the convenience of all badged employees. A new “fast pass” guard post connects the southernmost end of Meridian Road with a newly paved byway to a parking lot on the north bank of the Des Planes River.
“The new entrance allows shorter commutes and facilitates fuel savings for all of our employees who swim and boat to work, or in winter skate, from the south suburbs,” said Infrastructure Services Assistant Director Jon Quanta.
A fast-pass system using badge RFID and facial recognition software allows employees 24-7 access through the automated gate. Employees are reminded to always have their badge since there will be a temporary automated “caging” system to contain anyone attempting to enter without proper credentials.
Until the fast pass system is fully implemented in May, the gate scheduled will be limited for ingress and egress to Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:40 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., 11:52 a.m. to 1:19 p.m. and 4:51 p.m. to 6:12 p.m. On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, hours are modified to 6:10 a.m. to 7:23 a.m., and 4:55 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. sharp.
