‘Scienceland’ theme park opens soon on Argonne site
Construction is almost complete on the new theme park, “Scienceland,” being built on the Argonne site as part of a U.S. Department of Energy Outreach effort. “Cast members” — the new term for Argonne employees — will be expected to participate at least one day per week, helping the public learn about science in a fun, interactive setting.
Most cast members will receive training to operate the many rides or staff the games of chance on the midway in the 200 Area. All cast members will be required to spend some time dressed as one of the park’s mascot characters, like “Billy Battery” and “Rex Ascale the Supercomputer” Costume fittings will be scheduled via a Xink form.
Some of the rides and attractions set to open this summer include:
- The Haunted House O’ Sponsors
- Safety Safari, with animated tour guide “PPE LaPew”
- Funding Quest (Due to blueprint error, this attraction has no exit)
- “Zap the Sample!” Light up all the protein crystals with the X-ray beam to win!
