Julie Freyer-Reeves (HSE) receives April 2017 Gold Spot Award
Julie Freyer-Reeves (HSE) received a Gold Spot Award in April 2017 for mitigating a potential electrical shock hazard.
Julie observed a contractor conducting work on an X-ray machine. The individual had opened an access panel that contained live voltage. This was not part of the original Job Safety Analysis, so Julie used stop work authority and called HSE-Safety for support. It was found that the JSA risk level for this job needed to be raised due to the change in conditions and appropriate lockout/tagout controls needed to be implemented for work to continue.
Julie was commended for her keen awareness to safety and proper use of stop work authority.
Spot Awards give employees “on-the-spot” recognition for positive safety or quality assurance initiative. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting xink form ANL-758.
The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval. Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions. The cost of the award is charged to the recipient’s division.
Additional information about the Spot Award program is available on Inside Argonne.
