Michael Duoba (ES) receives April 2017 Gold Spot Award
On April 26, 2017, Michael Duoba (ES) received a Gold Spot Award for taking quick, proactive measures when he smelled natural gas.
One evening, after normal work hours, Duoba was walking to his vehicle when he noticed the distinct smell of natural gas in the air. He knew a natural gas leak could be dangerous, and he was also aware that a natural gas pipeline supplied operations in a nearby building, so he quickly took action.
Duoba contacted the Argonne Fire Department as well as the Section Manager of the Fuels, Engine and Aftertreatment Section to report the issue. Due to his quick thinking, Argonne was able to ensure that the safety and integrity of the supply pipeline remained uncompromised.
Spot Awards give employees “on-the-spot” recognition for positive safety or quality assurance initiative. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting Spot Award (ANL-758).
The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval. Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions. The cost of the award is charged to the recipient’s division.
