2017 Art of Science Contest
Argonne and DOE employees, users, contractors, postdocs and students are encouraged to submit science images that display the artistic side of their work at Argonne. Submissions will be accepted Thursday, July 6 through Thursday, July 27, 2017.
After the Art of Science Contest closes, a voting period will commence. Based on popular vote, the top 13 images will be featured in Argonne’s 2018 Calendar.
Images must be of high quality, and they must be accompanied by a description aimed for the general public.
- Images should be high resolution (i.e., ≥300 dpi).
- Acceptable file types: JPEG, PNG, TIFF or similar format
- Images must be landscape layout (i.e., horizontal).
Images that will not be considered:
Photographs cannot be significantly altered (e.g., collages, montages, superimpositions, etc.). The photographs are meant to represent science as art, in its purest form. Photo manipulation programs such as Adobe Photoshop can be used for simple cropping or for basic light/contrast tweaking. The goal is to keep the images as natural as possible.
No generic photos of facilities and instruments. Outside or aerial photos of facilities or photos of instruments should be visually interesting with regards to composition, color and quality.
Submissions from Argonne’s 2010 Art of Science Contest are available on Argonne’s Flickr site.
