2017 Postdoctoral Performance Award winners announced
Several Argonne postdoctoral appointees will be honored for their exceptional performance in the areas of Basic Research, Engineering Research and Applied Research.
The 2017 Postdoctoral Performance Award in the Basic Research category will be shared by Hanqi Guo (MCS) and In Soo Kim (MSD). Guo was nominated for his work in the area of data analysis and visualization. Kim was nominated for his work in the areas of catalysis and solar energy conversion. Kiran Sasikumar (NST) and Pamela Weisenhorn (BIO) will receive honorable mentions. Sasikumar works in the Theory and Modeling Group in the Nanoscience and Technology Division. Weisenhorn is with the Subsurface Science Group in the Biosciences Division.
The 2017 Postdoctoral Performance Award in Applied Research will be awarded to Muhsin Ameen (ES). Ameen was nominated for his work in the areas of computational fluid dynamics and high performance computing with the Engine Combustion Research Section in the Energy Systems Division (ES). Receiving honorable mentions are Niya Sa (CSE), Juan Garcia (MSD) and Ana Platero-Prats (XSD). Sa is with the Interfacial Materials Chemistry Group in the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division. Garcia works with the Molecular Materials Group in the Materials Science Division. Platero-Prats is a Postdoctoral Appointee with the Structural Science Group in the X-Ray Science Division.
The 2017 Postdoctoral Performance Award in the Engineering Research category will be awarded to Bipul Barua (NE) for his work on environmental fatigue study of key reactor materials with the Engineering Development and Applications Department in the Nuclear Engineering Division. Ahmed Abdul Moiz (ES) will receive an honorable mention. Moiz works in the Engine Combustion Research Section in ES.
The Postdoctoral Performance Awards were established to recognize the significant contributions postdoctoral appointees make to Argonne’s missions. The three categories for the awards seek to acknowledge the diverse expertise among Argonne’s postdoctoral community.
The awards were established by the Leadership Institute and are sponsored by Interim Laboratory Director, Paul Kearns, Deputy Director for Science, Matt Tirrell, and Interim Deputy Director for Operations, John Quintana.
Awardees will be recognized at a reception on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at 3 p.m. in the Building 213 Bistro Open Area. Welcome remarks will begin at 3:15 p.m., followed by the presentation of awards. Light refreshments will be served. All employees are welcome to attend.
