University of Chicago/Argonne scholarship plan
Children of full-time, regular Argonne employees are eligible to compete for full tuition scholarships at the University of Chicago under the University of Chicago/Argonne scholarship plan. Scholarship recipients will continue to be eligible for annual renewal as long as they remain in good academic standing and a parent is a full-time employee of Argonne. The university will also continue to provide one-half tuition remission to all dependent children of full-time, regular Argonne employees who are admitted for study in the college or the laboratory schools of the university.
To be awarded a scholarship, the student must be accepted for freshman admission to the University of Chicago and must be among the most qualified applicants from Argonne families as judged by the university. Freshman applicants are required to fill out the Common Application, the Universal College Application or the Coalition Application in addition to the UChicago supplement. Families will also need to submit their 2016 tax returns. Students who wish to compete for a scholarship are required to complete an Argonne verification form. The deadline for submitting this form is December 4, 2017. The form must be validated by Argonne’s Educational Programs Department. Upon validation, the form will be sent to the University for approval. Please contact Shari Knight at ext. 2-4114 to obtain the verification form. Scholarship winners will be announced on April 2, 2018. Winners must accept or decline the offer no later than May 1, 2018.
These are merit-based scholarships and do not preclude the possibility of additional need-based financial assistance from the university. It is university policy to ensure that financial need is not the controlling factor in determining whether a student can attend. To apply for financial aid, students and families must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the UChicago Worksheet (located in the student’s UChicago Account), or the CSS Profile and 2016 tax return documents. For additional information and deadlines, please visit the UChicago website.
