Argonne’s audiovisual team sets the standard
From presentations to symposiums, seminars to webinars, colloquia to conferences, Argonne researchers constantly need high-caliber audiovisual support. Argonne’s audiovisual services team of Tim Donnelly, Barry Switzer and Jon Schmidt consistently go above and beyond to meet the needs of employees from all across Argonne.
“The best part of working here is that each of us get to make at least 10 people happy every day — when we leave at the end of the day, we know we have a group of satisfied customers because of how we get things done efficiently and on time,” Donnelly said.
Making sure that everything runs smoothly is not always as easy as it looks. “We work ahead of time to make sure we’re calm in a potentially high-stress situation,” Schmidt said. “There’s a lot of variables and a lot of things that evolve, but if we’re prepared it makes things a lot easier for our clients.
Because audiovisual services are so in demand, the team has had the opportunity to connect — no pun intended — with many people from all around the laboratory. “People have told us at work events, ‘you probably know 90 percent of the people in this room,’ and it’s not that much of an exaggeration,” Switzer said.
Donnelly noted that the success of the group has come because of the support from others at the laboratory. “We can’t do our job without the support of the admins; we’re grateful we have people making sure we have all the proper information and correct times,” he said.
“Behind the scenes there are people that provide the latitude and support for us to work effectively — the BIS leadership and our Program Director Chad Karkos are always there to help us make the service better,” he added.
