Safety share: Report safety issues when you see them
Argonne has an excellent safety reporting system in place to respond to safety issues. Once an issue is identified, proper steps are implemented to review and address it.
How to report issues and suggestions
- In the event of an emergency, dial 9-11 from land lines or 1-630-252-1911 from cell phones. If you are unsure if it’s an emergency, call anyway!
- For non-emergencies, you can submit an online VECTOR form by selecting the “Safety and Health” option, or you can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
What happens when I report a non-emergency issue?
When issues are reported, they are sent to the subject matter experts in the HSE worker safety and health department. Then a lead is assigned to investigate the concern and prepare resolution options. Once the options are reviewed, the best procedure is used to resolve the safety issue.
How are safety issues tracked to completion?
Once a safety issue has been reported, communication updates are provided until the resolution has been completed.
What sorts of things should I report?
If you need assistance in resolving a safety issue, report it. Some examples include, but are not limited to:
- Building issues
- Outdoor issues
- Slip, trip and fall hazards
- Electrical concerns
- Chemical concerns
- Work planning and control questions

Each month a safety share submitted by an individual will be selected to receive a Spot Award for demonstrated safety leadership. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
