DOE issues call for Energy I-Corps Program applications; Argonne info session set
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Technology Transitions has issued a call for applications for Cohort 8 of DOE’s Energy I-Corps Program.
DOE invests millions of dollars every year in the national laboratories, yet without industry engagement and a business mindset at the labs, that investment has limited economic return.
Formerly known as Lab-Corps, Energy I-Corps pairs teams of researchers with industry mentors for an intensive two-month training in which the researchers define technology value propositions, conduct customer discovery interviews and develop viable market pathways for their technologies. Researchers return to their laboratory with a framework for industry engagement to guide future research and inform a culture of market awareness.
Argonne will host an information session on the Cohort 8 call from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, July 16, 2018, in the Building 203 Auditorium. Advance registration is requested.
In an effort to meet the demand for this training across new and blended technology areas, teams from any technology area will be considered for Cohort 8. Technologies submitted for consideration may be any Technology Readiness Level, but they should be at a stage in development that allows the team to identify potential partners within a target market.
Each team can be awarded up to $75,000. In the past, these funds have been used for salaries, travel to training programs and customer meetings, technology maturation, training materials and commercialization support services.
Participating national labs will be eligible to receive up to $55,000 in site funding to further the goals of Energy I-Corps and support programmatic execution.
Complete details on the call, including how to apply and application forms, can be found in the Cohort 8 Lab Call document.
The deadline for intent to apply for Cohort 8 is 4 p.m. (Central Time) on July 27, 2018. Teams that submit information indicating their intent to apply will be notified by DOE whether they have been approved to submit full proposals.
The deadline for full team proposals is 4 p.m. (Central Time) on Aug. 17, 2018. The deadline for site funding requests is 4 p.m. (Central Time) on Aug. 17, 2018.
