Workshop on advancing manufacturing science with the APS: Addressing materials synthesis scale-up issues
Interested researchers are invited to attend an internal, cross-directorate workshop on materials synthesis scale-up and X-ray science on Monday, March 4, 2019, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Building 402, Lower Gallery. Two of Argonne’s five initiatives, Manufacturing Science and Engineering and Materials and Chemistry, are hosting the workshop to bring together scientists and engineers from across the lab who have shown interests in one of the following areas: X-ray science, materials synthesis or manufacturing science. The presentations, panel discussions and audience discussions are intended to help generate ideas for the an upcoming LDRD call on manufacturing and X-ray science and for new cross-lab collaborators to target potential future funding in this area.
Presentations will focus on ways to use the Advanced Photon Source (APS) to do unique research in areas including catalysis, soft matter and interfaces. Several X-ray techniques will be explained as will how to best write proposals to apply for beam time. This is an opportunity for domain scientists to brainstorm with X-ray scientists on potential new areas of research for Argonne and ways that the APS can augment existing research throughout the laboratory.
Registration is required. Registrants will receive the final agenda and be placed on a mailing list for future projects and funding opportunities tied to materials synthesis scale-up and X-ray science.
