2015 AFL Kick Off Celebration
The 2015 Active For Life Kick Off Celebration took place Wednesday, April 15, 2015 in the Bistro 213. Active For Life is an eight-week voluntary program that runs from April 15 through June 10. The Health and Employee Wellness (HEW) Division organizes this annual challenge which encourages employees to maintain an active, physically fit lifestyle.
Employees form teams to set individual and team wellness goals. Teams compete against one another internally within the Argonne Laboratory community and as a laboratory whole against other U.S. Department of Energy laboratories. About 390 employees are participating in 29 teams.
Many teams develop a team name, logo or uniform to set them apart and to show team pride as they exercise on the Argonne campus. Members earn points for daily activity, good nutrition choices and participation in weekly program challenges. Points can be earned by simply drinking water or taking the stairs instead of an elevator.
HEW has a full schedule of nutrition, mental and fitness challenges paired with activities for this year. Active For Life Participants can earn Bonus Points for each successfully completed activity.

Employees then joined the Deputy Laboratory Director and Medical Director for a walk around the Argonne inner circle campus.
The next event planned is “Commit to be Fit” on Wednesday, April 29, where a panel of Argonne employees who have committed to fitness will discuss what worked for them and how employees can commit to their own health and fitness.
Employees mandated to a 30-minute lunch can still participate for those 30 minutes in this event and earn their bonus points.
