The Navigator Program
Office of the Director (OTD) and Operations (OPS) have initiated Navigator (Login required), a new peer mentoring and onboarding opportunity designed to provide new employees in OTD and OPS with a smooth transition into Argonne’s culture. This program will enable new employees to quickly become successful, contributing members of the Argonne team.
We’ve all felt a bit overwhelmed during the first few days at a new job. Having a trusted, experienced peer at hand, ready to answer questions makes those critical first weeks less stressful. “Navigators” will help welcome new OTD/OPS employees to the laboratory and answer any initial questions they may have about our organization, community and culture.
As of April 1, hiring managers will assign all new OTD and OPS employees with a navigator through the Talent Acquisition Management System (TAMS). This will be done after an employment offer has been accepted and before the new employee’s start date.
The navigator will be a resource and mentor for one to three months to help ensure that the new employee has a successful transition into the laboratory community. The pair can decide whether or not to continue the Navigator relationship after that point.
Navigators are Argonne ambassadors, high performers and positive role models. They’ll have an opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise, help guide new employees and introduce them to some of the great things Argonne has to offer.
If you are an OTD or OPS employee and would like to become a navigator, fill out xink form ANL-1040 Navigator Enrollment Change Request (Login required). Once your application has been approved, you will receive an e-mail welcoming you to the program including a link to a short, required online training to help prepare you for your new role. You can end your participation in the program at any time by filling out and submitting the same xink form.
At a minimum, navigator candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Work in OTD or OPS
- Have time and are willing to participate in the program
- Would make good ambassadors for Argonne
- Demonstrate high performance and are positive role models
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills
- Have been employed by Argonne for at least one year
- Have discussed becoming a navigator with their supervisors and received approval
The Navigator program aims to promote meaningful, professional relationships and an inclusive environment that enables all employees to achieve their highest potential. Additional information about the program is available on Inside Argonne.
