Safety share: Texting and walking don’t mix

Apr 15, 2016 | Posted by Argonne Today | Safety |

Researchers at The Ohio State University estimate than there may have been about 2 million pedestrian injuries related to cell phone use in 2010 alone. They also found that between 2004 and 2010 the number of pedestrians killed while using a cell phone increased from less than 1 percent to 3.6 percent.

Check out this safety share on distracted walking by Quinn Matula (ESQ). It includes three essential habits to adopt to help avoid slips, trips and falls.

Please share this information with your staff and/or colleagues.

Kicking off meetings with a safety share is a great way to break the ice, begin teambuilding from the onset of meetings and keep safety at the forefront of our minds each and every day. The Safety Share Library, binned by topic area, provides a variety of resources for your convenience.

All employees, groups and divisions are encouraged to submit safety shares for inclusion in the library. Submission details are available on Inside Argonne.

Each month a safety share submitted by an individual will be selected by Environment, Safety and Quality Assurance to receive a Spot Award for demonstrated safety leadership. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
