Robert Ross, Mathematics and Computer Science interim director

Argonne Senior Computer Scientist Robert Ross has been appointed interim director of the Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS) Division.

Rob is a senior fellow in the Northwestern-Argonne Institute for Science and Engineering (NAISE) and in the University of Chicago and Argonne Computation Institute (CI). He is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University.

His research interests include design, implementation, and deployment of complex distributed systems and data and communication system software for high-performance computing.

Rob received his Ph.D. in computer engineering from Clemson University in 2000. He currently holds several leadership positions at Argonne and in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) computing community, including serving as deputy director of the Scientific Data Management, Analysis and Visualization Institute and as lead of the Data Management and Workflow Software component of the DOE Office of Science Exascale Computing activity.

MCS provides intellectual and technical leadership in extreme computing, data-intensive science, applied mathematics and science and engineering applications.
