Nancy Sanchez (DOE) photographed this common garter snake near Building 201. As the name suggests, these non-venomous reptiles are common on the Argonne site and across the Midwest.
Bill Vinikour (ES) spotted this baby snapping turtle in the Building 240 parking lot — which is, fortunately for the toddler turtle, closed for construction. The youngster’s shell is not much bigger than a penny.
