Annual employee demographics available online
By Julie Nuter, Chief Human Resources Officer
In order to deliver on our commitment to diversity and inclusion within the Argonne community, it is important for all of us to know where we are so we can better chart a path to where we need to be.
This is why the laboratory is committed to broadly disseminating gender and ethnicity data on the Argonne workforce. It is part of our larger commitment to transparency regarding our diversity and inclusion journey. I am pleased to report our latest employee demographics are now available online.
Argonne began publishing this data annually in 2015 and was one of the first national laboratories to do so. Since then, all national laboratories have adopted this best practice. The data is categorized based on guidance from the U.S. Department of Energy, which wants all labs across the complex to use consistent methods to report their demographics.
It’s important to remember, however, that diversity and inclusion is not just about numbers. It’s about creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels they are valued and are impacting the world by contributing to the laboratory’s scientific mission.
As we move forward in 2019, the laboratory remains committed to progress on our D&I journey. The foundation for that progress is our core values of Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork. In the coming weeks, look for information on how we can all contribute to defining the behaviors that exemplify these core values and in the process, create a more collaborative and inclusive workplace for all employees.
